Android Vs iPhone

It's just about that time...
I've had my droid for almost 18 months!!  I have loved this phone from the start!
I will need to decide if I am sticking with an android based phone or becoming an Iphone user.

My Droid is pretty beat up these days as it is my lifeline to our crazy, hectic life.
It's been to every football game, wrestling match, dance recital, school performance, cheer practice, vacation and beyond!  It has kept me in touch, on task (for the most part), and accessible whether I liked it or not.

So I decided to make a pros and cons list of my personal wants and needs...

Apps:
Droid - Open Market can mean so many more options
iPhone - Apple has their stuff together and really has some great stuff.
My personal annoyance with Droid is: Words with Friends, I waited and waited for this jewel to be available to me and now that I have it, I'm frustrated with the forced closings.  However I know with a little patience it will be fixed.  And it is just a game...

Google Mail
I know both can receive my google mail and since my hubby and son both have the Iphone I can see how my Android app is SO much better.  It works just like my gmail.  I have colored labels/tags and the biggest thing I just learned last night... Iphones can't SEARCH Mail!!!  Aughhh!  My wonderful husband said "yeah, but how much do you do that?" Oh my... like DAILY!  Especially coordinating a youth club and volunteering as a coordinator for my son's All Night Grad party.  I have used this bad boy to show people emails I have sent or something I have received when something has been in question!   Don't know how I could live without that one...

Google Maps
I have turn by turn directions, and I know that there are apps(or AT&T newer  iPhone) for the iPhone to be able to do the same thing.  We have also discovered that my layers (traffic layer to be specific) will show information about an accident where the Iphone google map doesn't.  I don't always get info on what's ahead but it's a nice feature.

Google Calendar
Hmmm another big issue... since I use Google calendar and have color coded calendars for each member   of the family, my Android google calendar looks just like the desktop version.  I can see who is where and for how long at one glance.  The Iphone google calendar shows it in an agenda view and you have to open the items to see how long something is.

Facebook
Pretty similar.  Can do most of the same things.  I think the iPhone version is a bit better.  Hubby can view the wall of an event and I can't.

Messaging
I'm sure there are apps for both phones to do as many cool things as you like, but my android based one, I can have separate notification tones for different people... big bonus when it's in your purse and you want to know who it is before get your lazy butt up off the couch.  I can also have my blinking light change colors... like for example most of my text messages lights are pink, except for when my hubby texts me... Gmail is always green.  I know before I even turn the screen on what is waiting for me...

Storage
Oh boy...
How can you not love a SD card.  I have over 900 pictures in my phone!  I know the iPhone connects to your computer and you have everything there, but an extra sd card is soooooo much cheaper than getting the bigger iPhone!!

Battery
Well hubby's iPhone lasts way longer than mine... but mine is 18 months old, which in cell phone world these days is OLD!

I could also pop in a new battery if I decided to buy one.  I am usually in or near my charger most of the time so it really doesn't bother me to plug it in.

So after seeing all my Pro's for the android why would I even consider buying an iPhone... I don't know... it looks cool, my husband and son have one... it has WAY more cool stuff to make it look cute... I have a macbook... does that even matter???  Hmmm, not ready to decide yet.  What do you think?

Hard to believe in just over a month my second son will be graduating High School!

June will be incredibly busy and crazy around here with all the festivities!!  I'm not sure there could be more packed into one weekend!  Retirement ceremony, graduation from high school, promotion from sixth grade, ballet recital, retirement/grad party, family coming in... whew!

On or about June 22 you will find me laying by the pool nearly unconscious! I press on with this hope!

Off to make invites! Enjoy the sneak peek at Shaun's announcements! I love Shutterfly!!

Snow Fun!

It may not have been Snowmaggedon again this year, but it was a crazy afternoon and evening ride home!  The kids and I made our way to piano lessons while it was raining, knowing the snow would start soon but thinking we had plenty of time! It started to sleet when we arrived and snowing about 15 minutes into their lessons! I sat there listening to the kids play and thought to myself... snow will be much better than sleet to drive in!   We were there for only 1 hour (45 minutes of snow), how bad could it be??  Shortly before 4 PM we were on the road... and there we stayed for the next 3 1/2 hours!  It is normally about a 15-20 minute ride.  The snow was coming down so fast at stop lights when cars moved due to a green light you could see where the cars had been! I cleared the roof and windows at least three times during the journey and each time it was close to like 2 inches of snow!  This snow was so wet and heavy, when I got back into the car the kids said I looked like I just got out of the shower!

Street signs were unreadable as it was sticking to everything! I think the kids were a bit nervous, I know I was.  I was constantly thinking of if we were to get stuck, where we would walk to and how wet and cold they would be... especially Jacob as he didn't bring a jacket! They were also getting hungry and we scrounged through the car to see what sustenance we had with us... Mike and Ike's would get us through! We actually had some gatorade and other junk foods so we were feeling pretty good!

We were in the Prius, as Michael and I made a conscious decision that morning that he should have the bigger heavier Expedition for the evening commute when the snow would be bad... hmmm!

Amazingly enough, our Prius was awesome!! Front wheel drive proved to be just what we needed. There were so many stupid drivers... I know they are always out there but they really stand out when the conditions are so poor! We saw people trying to avoid cars, going around and then getting stuck themselves or just plain pushy! Green and red lights didn't seem to apply to some and the whole idea of not blocking intersections was lost!   Each hill gave me reason to worry as cars where sliding everywhere.  One car in front of us almost slid back and hit us, and another car I jumped out to help push as it was getting stuck.  I've never seen such awful conditions and the main problem was there were so many people on the road the sand trucks and plows couldn't do anything as we were crawling!! We were almost home free when I had to make a decision as to which way to go home... straight down hill road or curvy back roads... I had decided to take the curvy roads as Shaun had walked home from a friends and told me there were downed wires on the straight shot road! So with prayers and trepidation I turned off the major road...thankfully so did the snow plow/sand truck that was in front of me!!  I really don't think I would have made it without him plowing in front as the snow was pretty high on the side streets!  It would have been a cold and wet  1 1/2 miles, but each street we navigated my nerves were calming since I knew we were close!  The kids and I cheered each time I put my blinker on and the snow plow went that way too!! At one point the snow plow got stuck... yes a huge truck, he backed up and went forward a few times and then was successful... when I went over that area, which he plowed, we totally were scraping the bottom of the car on the snow!  We finally arrived home a bit frazzled!  Michael was having an equally harrowing trip home and arrived a little more than an hour after us... his journey which was mostly by metro and driving a short 6.9 miles took almost 5 hours!

Whew!  I cooked dinner and was making Michael's so it would be warm for him, then we lost power...
For two days, we chilled... literally!  We played card games by candle light and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire.  It was... fun... wasn't it? Our second morning the house was a chilly 50.4 degrees!!  We braved the roads and went to Starbucks!  We came home only long enough to get everyone up and ready to head to Panera for lunch! Just as we were leaving the power came on!!  We stayed out most of the day and returned to a warm home!!! Here are some pictures of our snow fun... once we started to enjoy it!!

The kids have a 7 day weekend with the snow days and the two teacher work days on Monday and Tuesday... I think sledding will be a daily adventure!!

The trees were so heavy with snow but beautiful!
We lost a tree... just snapped!

Shaun thought it a little lame... he needs bigger hills these days!
